After the successful March workshop, Emerald Bottery's Michael Philetus Weller will be leading another workshop on 3D Modeling for 3D printing at Metrix Create:Space on Saturday 11 April 2015, for $75.
By following detailed instructions to create your own custom ring you will learn to model 3D objects using open source software! The workshop will teach you to use FreeCAD's new part design mode, in which 2D sketches with constraints are used to generate 3D geometry, which is the same workflow used in commercial mechanical design packages such as SolidWorks and AutoDesk Inventor. Special attention will be paid to the constraints of fused deposition modeling (FDM) printers such as the Makerbot, and to preparing models for 3D printing. Your ring will then be 3D printed on one of Metrix's FDM machines (3D printed ring included in cost of workshop).
